Whenever someone asks what kind of music I like, I tell them trip hop. They think I mean hip hop or they either ask what it is. Can anyone help me describe what kind of music trip-hop actually is?

Haha you know what trip hop is. It's that pulsation, that rhythym, that beat, that flow. You can't describe it in any words other than Massive Attack, Portishead, DJ Shadow...you can only say it in the music itself, the artists themselves and their art.

Trip-hop generally consists of some sampled instruments and some live instruments. The beats are almost always hip hop style beats. The other instruments are often layered in a sparse way over the top to give it a laid back feel. Jazz is frequently the subject material for the sampled instruments. Trip hop often has a swing feel too.

I LOOOOVE TRIP HOP.
IT ORIGINATED IN ENGLAND.
ITS JAZZ MIXED WITH HIP HOP.
AND MAYBE SOME GARAGE MUSIC.
WITH SOME ROCK ELEMENTS .
NOT ALOT OF AMERICANS KNOW ABOUT IT.
THAT'S A SHAME REALLY.
THAT'S WHY I LOOOVE MUSIC CHOICE.
DO YOU KNOW THAT CHANNEL?
THEY PLAY ALL TYPES OF MUSIC ALL DAY AND GIVE FACTS ABOUT ARTIST.
I DISCOVERD ELCTRONICA AND LOUNGE LAST YEAR ALL BECAUSE OF MUSIC CHOICE.
IF IT WASN'T 4 MC I WOULD'VE NEVER KNOWN ABOUT SUCH GREAT ARTIST.
THEY PLAY ARTIST THAT AMERICA WOULD'NT EVEN TOUCH.
