Hezbollah is a group that is kind of like 'stationed' in Lebanon. Some consider them a terrorist group but not like Al Qu. because they focus on Israel much like the Palestines. They also play a role in the Lebonese government.

Israel was at war with the Hez. group up until 1994 (date is somewhere around there) when they had a sieze fire. If I'm not mistaken Clinton was involved in that.

Ok now, basically out of nowhere Hez. comes across the Israeli border and kidnaps some soldiers then commences to start sending a few missiles into Israel's 3rd largerst city.

Israel then used it's air force to start bombing the Hez. main base in Lebanon. When you use bombs from planes, like we did in Iraq, you end up with a lot of collateral damage... innocent ppl dieing. So, this has gotten the actual lebanese ppl ticked off too because a lot of non-Hez. are dieing.

Also, the weapons that Hez. suddenly seems to have (the aerial missiles) appear to all be coming from Iran. Some are suspecting Syria is supporting them also. This is complicating the issue enormously.

Lastly, the most current problem is that Israel is no longer willing to just accept the return of its soldiers. They are now so ticked off and tired of this repeating itself that they are talking about not quitting until Hez. is completely disarmed and demobilized. I heard this myself tonight right out of the mouth of Dan Gillerman, Israeli ambassador to the UN, in a Charlie Rose interview on PBS.

So, this basically means WW3.

Here's the simple explanation: There are two bratty little children called Israel and Palestine who don't play well to together at all. A third child which is big and powerful and mildly retarded, (we'll call him America) is always there to back Israel. This really pisses of Palestine who has some pretty retarded friends like Iran and Lebanon who aren't afraid to do crazy things against Israel. Of course it's more complicated than this explanation but at the same time, not really all that complicated. The biggest annoyance for me personally is that we have to hear about what's going on there every day if we have an interest in the news. Personally I'm quite tired of hearing about these people who cannot get along no matter what. The only reason we have to hear about them in the news is because the U.S. is so interested in Israel retaining its state at all costs. The scary part is the motivation for this. As we have a nut ball Evangelical President who believes in 'The End Times', he thinks the only way Jesus will return is if Israel has its state.

It's not exactly between Israel and Lebanon. Lebanon is dominated by a terrorist group called Hezbollah. Hezbollah has attacked Israel many times, and most of the times the attacks go with no response.
A week ago, Hezbollah abducted 2 Israeli soldiers. Israel reacted by bombing Hezbollah bases in Lebanon. Hezbollah reacted by bombing Israeli cities. Things escalated from there.

Hezbollah is funded by Iran and Syria. Some of the bombs they used this week were Iranian made.

The tragic aspect of this whole thing are the way the people of Lebanon are being used by Hezbollah and Syria. They have no regard for human life, and don't mind sacrificing Lebanese people in this war.

well as i can see from Lebanon, Israel is destroying anything under the pretext of hizbollah....It is clear and obvious that Israel wants to destroy Lebanon....so far after 7 days, only civilians died and maybe only 5 (at most!) of hizbollah fighters died!
Practically most bridges are destroyed, as well as roads, there is a see blockade and the aiport was hit (even an unfinished unoperational small airport was hit!), roads to Syria are bombed, and supplies are running off...what does it mean when Israel attacks factories and power plants? or when when it stricks the oil stations? Hizbollah is not the target (although i have wished it was), but Lebanon is. And i want to mention that Lebanon is not an islamic country, about 40% are christians, the president, half of the cabinet and the parlement are christians.

Lebanon's government is made up of different political parties. One part of their government is a known terror group like Al Queda - called Hezbolla.

Hezbolla soldiers went from Lebanon into Israel and kidnapped a few Israeli soldiers.

Now Israel has demanded that the kidnapped solders should be released. They had to go into Lebanon to get to hezbola.

it is much more complicated than this - but I will be honest, its too much to type.

I like it when people ask for more information before forming an opinion - this is the sign of someone who is smart and eager to learn. We need more people like you!

I would say Lebanese people have trouble understanding languages-theirs, Israeli, English-the world over. DON'T ABDUCT ISRAELI SOLDIERS, FIRE UNPROVOKED MISSILES AT OTHER COUNTRIES, AND DECLARE OPEN WAR ON COUNTRIES THAT WILL KICK THE LIVING SHTANK OUT OF YOU! They can't read that. They are like an infant nation that doesn't understand why they get punished at times. They don't understand that it is wrong to kill people just because they disagree with your religion, or choice of ketchup, much like Syria, Iran, the Taliban and other failing resistance groups. They are like the bullies on the playground, that in the end are just wanting attention, but don't know how to go about asking for it the right way. Torturing, manipulating, video tapes of beheadings, instagating civil wars,-this is how they drum up attention. That's the small side of it.

i think Israel will definately be triumphant. i think the Muslims haven't any probability of surely doing some thing to Israel except all of us can actaully unite all of them. it is not a coinceidence that the Iranian president has been calling for the coming of the Mahdi. even as he seems on the seen he will make a peace treaty with Israel and then vacation it and all notwithstanding wipe out Isreal. there is no longer some thing to concern about till eventually all of us can unite all Arabs into Jihad.

It is the same story that keeps repeating for decades now. This time it was Hesbollah a terrorist group backed by anti-Isreal nations such as Syria and Iran sent missles into Isreal killing innocent civilians. In retaliation Isreal sent bombs into southern Lebanon also killing innocent civilians while attmepting to target Hesbollah areas.

Easy! Why does everyone keep asking this? Watch TV!

Heres what happened.

Terrorists from Lebanon (Hizbollah) captured 2 israeli soldiers.

Israel retaliated by striking targets that are important to hizbollah in lebanon, like control centers, supplies, etc.

They will continue to do so and make life hell for hizbollah until the two soldiers are returned.

Thats it.

Well, pretty much 2 Israili soldiers were captured on the lebonese side of the border, although Israel claims it was on their side but Israel has proven it can't be trusted to tell the truth any more then Bush can.

Their pretty much committing terrorist acts against civilians until they can get somebody to attack them and bring the U.S. into it all and start WWIII
