Why is he having such a hard time this year?
I know he's got what it takes to help take the team to the WS, but he hasn't been able to show it this year.
Seriously, What could be the problem?

I hope you guys don't think I'm dissing A-Rod. He's my favorite player and I will ALWAYS be a huge fan. I just want to get opinions on what seems to be troubling him. I feel so bad for my A-Rod! : (
I agree with a lot of your comments about how good he really is. Believe me, I know his stats! Thanx everyone! : ) Keep those answers coming!

Okay. Let's get this straight. A-Rod is neither gay nor overrated. Overpaid? Maybe, but that's not my question.
Thank you all. : )

Every good ballplayer will have his bad times it just part of the game. His problem has been compounded by his BIG contract and by his playing in the biggest baseball media center in the country. New York expectations are beyond the norm in all categories. Winning is not enough. Its just not good enough to win the division. The season is a loss if the Yankees don't win the series. Alex's numbers are not bad but for a player who makes 25 million a year he's expected to hit a home run every other at bat and drive in 200 runs. MVP should have been enough for New Yorkers to embrace him. He's one of the top three players in the game.

A-Rod's problem is that he can't handle NY city, that has alway's been his problem. Last year he was good, but not in the clutch he wasn't, he would hit meaningless home runs and just plain choke when it mattered... The 1st guy to answer this question with all the stats, the one who that made the outrageous accusation that A-Rod has had a better season than Jeter, well he must be real high because he forgot to mention Jeter's 18 steals, A-Rod has half that, plus A-Rod could never keep up a .343 like Jeter, that's AMAZING!
A-Rod is just not NY material!

There is nothing wrong with Alex Rodriguez. He is still the best SS in the game. They just moved him to third.
I don't believe in "clutch" or "meaningless home runs", whatever those are. He produces. He will produce tomorrow and the next day. He isn't over-rated, either, as he has been among the top five players in the game for nearly a decade.
His numbers are there. The Yankees need to look at poor personnel decisions in the rotation for their "problems". They are at .600 winning percentage, though, so they should probably be okay.

Dude this reminds me of Tiger Woods not being on his game for a couple of games and everyone starts to talk about how he's done and might not ever be the same. This guy Alex Rodriguez is awesome! His stats are right up there tops in the American Legue. He doesn't have a ton of rbi's because he has people around him that get the job done. A-Rod is fine, he isn't to blame for the yankees struggles, you need to blame the pitching! Wright Sucks! Randy needs to retire! The Asian guys suck! I mean if it wasn't for this awesome run support that the yankees have, their starters would have even worse records.

A few things is wrong with Alex Rodriguez.
a) Giambi is on fire. With Giambi hitting monsters on the 3rd hole, that means that A-Rod would have less RBI oppurtunities.
b) People are willing to walk A-rod. He has no bat protection with the injuries to Hedieki Matsui and Sheiffield.
c) Improved pitching in the AL East. The emergence of top notch pitching in all the "push-over" teams have led to a decrease in batting average in the AL East. Studs such as Scott Kazmir on the Devil Rays and Bedard on the Orioles only make his job so much harder.
d) NY media is starting tog et to him.

His problem is your expectations. He has 20 home runs, an on-base percentage of .388 and a slugging percentage of .504. Everyone in New York is on his case, but in fact he has had a slightly better season than Jeter, who everyone is touting for MVP.
ARod: AVG .284 | HR 20 | RBI 68 | OBP .388 | SLG .504
Jeter: AVG .343 | HR 6 | RBI 56 | OBP .423 | SLG .472
Jeter has been hitting for a better average and getting on base more, but Arod has shown much more power.
ARod's main problem is that he was the best player in the league last year, and it is only natural that he would be slightly less good this year.
ARod isn't the Yankees' problem. PItching and injuries are the Yankees' problem.

A-Rod definitely isn't over-rated. Thats how baseball goes sometimes. Everyone gets into a funk every now and then. He'll probably improve over the course of the next few weeks. Still, by the rest of the league's standards, his stats aren't THAT bad.

In theory his numbers look good but personally I feel he is over rated and over paid and should never have left Seattle.
He has brought nothing to the Yankees that we didn't already have.We don't need him.Let him go try to be some other teams hero.
I don't think he can handle the pressure of being in Pinstripes.
And he is a shortstop. He still hasn't figured out how to play 3rd in all this time.He needs to move on.
GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's all the pressure in New York. And he puts way to much pressure on himself, which he should not do. I also think when he strikes out or does not do something right, the fans will boo him and that keeps on putting more and more pressure on him. Maybe if the Yankee fans will stop booing him and start cheering him on, he will play A LOT better. So, Yankee fans, do NOT boo him!!!!!
GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
