As soon as you wake up (for some that may not be in the morning as some of us have to work nightshift).

It makes no difference if you feel like a shower first then coffee and then breakfast as long as you eat before your day starts. Breakfast is still the most important meal of the day ... when ever you have it after a long sleep it wakes up the metabolism and gets you started. I've come off nightshift showered, eaten a (snack) and then gone to bed for a few hours of sleep to wake up later then eat my breakfast at 5pm is not strange in the nursing world as it would be for other shift workers.

right after you wake up, it gets your metabolism kick starting right away and it also helps to wake you up as well. (Apples wake you up better that coffee:fact)
