I was talking to a friend of mine who happens to be a lesbian and she mentioned that to me. I wonder if it is true, and if so, why?

I think she meant in dating. What she noticed is that few white girls would date a brown girl, within the lesbian community.
I wonder what is the line dividing 'just preference' from 'subtle racism'.

I agree, the line between "preference" and "subtle racism" is usually pretty fine. But I don't think that makes gays more racist then straights. I think that is just an all people (or more specifically, all white people in most cases) thing.

well a lot of people that are gay and lesbian have had some kind of trauma when they were young which greatly influenced them to have strong feelings against whoever committed the act, and that carries over psychologically to other people. so if a girl was molested by a man when she was young, perhaps she will develop a strong subconcious feeling against men and as a result will become lesbian and even have rascist feelings toward men in general

I have many friends of many different ethnic backgrounds. Just because someone has preferences on who they like to date or be with sexually does not equal racism. Also, I do not think this is unique to the GLBT community. I know many str8 people who are much more 'preferential' about who they date or even socialize with.

I definitely do not think so. As someone already said, if you are gay or lesbian you know what discrimination is all about and that makes a person less likely to continue a cycle of hatred.

I'd be VERY curious to see some research on this. Taking a sociological guess (if it is true): media representation of GLBT folks is always of white upperclass people. That's gotta do something to the community.

zacko is wacko.
we aere all different. We have preferences for those we want to date. We may be not to crazy about the idea of dating someone from another race, but when that mr/ms right shows up, color goes out the window.

I haven't noticed that, and I am by no means racist myself. I would guess that racism is distributed pretty evenly among all sexual orientations. Interesting question though.

I would say probably less so. On the whole I think the gay community is more accepting than straight society.

I have not experienced that. Although being gay or lesbian does not exclude one from being prejudice. One would think it would help with tolerance and acceptance.
