People that are against Embryonic stem cell research are for umbilical (also called adult stem cell) research. That is their sole argument against embryonic research, other means are available, not to mention that all of the developements that have been made, have been with adult stemcells not with embryo's.
I have no I dea where you got your idea that they are against that...
but you are sadly mistaken.

YES! As a compassionate humaniarian and liberal myself (who has no religious affiliation to dictate my ethics for me), abortion and/or the use of unborn babies for medical research is one of the very few issues on which The Left and I disagree. I too am compassionate toward those suffering from diseases and ailments who may benefit from medical advancements with stem cell research, how I strongly believe that all life is important at all stages. Given the alternative of using stem cells extracted from the umbilical cord, there is no reason to use the aborted embryos in research. Typically I can not stand George W Bush, however I sincerely hope that he stays true to his word and vetos the bill when it passes Congress today. It can be at least one thing for which I can be proud of him during his presidency. :-)

I am not opposed to stem cell research. I am just concerned about genetic engineering and technological issues that make human life less valuable.
Read a book called A Brave New World - by Aldous Huxley. It will give you a good idea about why everyone is so concerned.
It is just a matter of time when technology will replace people.

I was pondering this question today. I think I have it figured out. This has nothing to do with "life" this has to do with government income. If there are great successes with this new technology the big drug companies could suffer. The money is rolling right now in the drug companies and they are paying their taxes. Stem cell technology is a baby and needs funding, no government income. When this technology works mother nature will be doing the work, non taxable.

If the nut case conservatives keep having their way we won't have jack for stem cell research.
Unless one of them could use the research to help them or their family. Then all of a sudden stem cell research isn't so bad..

people up there have to cover their asses...main problem is by the anti-abortion lobbyists...they're afraid that people will start aborting for the money (i'm sure that'll be lots available once stem-cell research gets underway)
it's not that they're blind to the possibilities; a lot of them are smart people and know that stem cell research will save and improve the quality of billions of lives in the future
it's just politics, I guess...

Well it's all down to the politicians and their constituents. And most of their constituents aren't aware of the umbilical cord blood way and as soon as they hear the words "stem cell" they immediately think "baby murder", just like when they hear the words "Jim Bob" and they think "great name".

Abortion may nicely be criminal notwithstanding it is incorrect and evil and outright homicide to an probability free unborn newborn. imagine about it that kid will under no circumstances see sunlight hours or snigger or journey a motorbike or savour having friends or comprehend the love of a be certain. This unborn newborn will under no circumstances comprehend the failings that we take with little interest in our time-honored lifes. Plus that kid is torn to products in the course of the abortion it is between the techniques that is killed ripped limb from limb. I pray that God may have mercy on all of people that get abortions and function had abortions. i'm satisfied that those undesirable children will stay with him and heaven always. i received't make it there myself who's easily-known with yet a minimum of they could. in order that that you comprehend no newborn is an coincidence all of them come the following with a purpose yet some under no circumstances have the threat to fulfill there purpose as a results of cruelty of mankind. faster or later it is going to come to bypass that we may might want to account for the failings we've done and presented that we are quite sorry and regretful for those issues do we be forgiven. i comprehend that there are some who will see this in yet differently than me along with atheist and people of non-christian or perhaps some christian religions notwithstanding it is superb interior the top of time it ought to come to bypass that what i think is inaccurate yet i do not care because i'm chuffed for now. nicely there you've my opinion.
