I assume you are talking about e-mail. You must check to see that you are typing the e-mail address correctly. There must be no mistakes in the spelling and no spaces either. The other way would be to ask your friend to send you an e-mail first. Then all you would have to do is click on the reply button and an e-mail template will appear with her/his e-mail address already on it. Oh yes, don't forget to press the send button on the e-mail. If you don't, the e-mail will just sit right there and not go anywhere.

there are folowing reason for failure
1: you mentioned wrong email id
2 your mail server may be down at that time
3 your friend mail id may be blocked
in case of invalid email failure delivery is given by your mail service provider
