4 months ago, I took a hit from my brother in a roller hockey game. So I had to go to an orthopedic surgeon to get MRI's on my knee. The PCL in my left need is only partially torn.

I can walk and run normally, but I know that something still doesn't feel right. I was just wondering if it will heal on its own, or if I must get surgery? I understand that the ligament isn't vascular, and won't fully heal, but is there even a chance that my leg muscles can compensate for this injury in any way?

Basically no more hockey or gymnastics for me.

Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), is one of the worse knee injuries, a sports carreer ending injury. Especially, if constant fast lateral movements are required for your sport. If you continue to practice your current sport it'll definite worsen and eventually your walk will show it. I heard/read an article in a medical journal of grafting ligaments, but it is in the experimental stages. At this point building support muscles is very important for your stability; however, once ligaments tear they don't reattach themselves back to the bone, even if it is partially torn.

I hate to tell you it will only get worse over time. The more activities you are involved in that places a strain on the PCL the more aggravated it gets. I partially tore mine and the more activities I engaged in over time the worse it got until i tore it and it had to be repaired. talk to you doctor about arthroscopic knee surgery to repair the tear it only leaves 2 small incisions.

Ligaments haven't any blood flow to them to furnish healing. they're commonly sewn up in a surgical operation. examine including your health care specialist. did not he/she say some thing once you had it checked?
