I ask this because different companies do pickup on different days, and it's always only one day a week, so what do they do the rest of the days?

They work in different areas on different days...common sense no? Now if the question was about Snow Plough workers then we'd all be scratching our heads...

Garbage men cover a large territory. They might be in your neighborhood on Monday and then another on Tuesday and every day of the week. My garbage day is Monday, but my girlfriend across town has it on Thursday. It's a 40 hour a week job just like everyone elses. When they have a day off, they do the same kind of stuff everyone else does.

i once worked as a truck driver picking up garbage and if you live in the city then there is a lot more cans to pick up besides yours. everyday you do a different route and after a week you start over,see what i mean. i hope i could be of help. have a nice day.

Like all other workers they probably work the same number of hours a week. In addition to collecting rubbish some of them has to do maintenance work like cleaning out the rubbish trucks and separating the garbage at the dumps as part of their job. On their off-days they probably do what all of us does, enjoy some leisure time, spend it with the family, do their taxes, play with the dog, take out the garbage......etc....etc...

Our town is so small the garbage men are just city employees who do other stuff like clean the roads, fix things, mow lawns, take care of the water plant, dog pound, and other various city duties when they aren't picking up trash.

they actually go to a different area. they can't do it all in one day. i have friends that live about a 10 minute bike ride away and have theirs picked up a different day.
