At Jaguar, they want every repair covered under warranty or as "good will" where the dealer absorbs the cost, even if they did something wrong to mess up the car. If you don't give them what they want, they make a scene in the most crowded location at the dealership.

In America, we're raised learning the right way to deal with people in social and business settings, not to take advantage of others ... a way in which the French (and other cultures) seem to be sadly lacking.

Who knows? But obviously they are. You said so.
That probably explains why the French don't have roads or hospitals and there are orphans starving on every corner (well, it'd be a corner if there was a road) of Paris.

Do you really have any idea how that sounds?
People in different cultures have different RIGHT ways! And ours are as foreign to them as theirs are to us.
Has it occurred to you that, with your attitude, you may have missed some nuance, that you may be misunderstanding motivation, or a different way of conducting business? Of course not, because you know the right way and they don't.
I shall never again wonder why the phrase "Ugly American" has stuck. I'm embarrassed to be an American right now.
