On June 10, 1940 the dictator of Italy declared war on France and Great Britain.

Mussolini has been thinking that the war will be over soon and that France and Great Britain will surrender. He was right about France because they surrendered on June 25. He was wrong about Great Britain surrendering because the new Prime Minister is Winston Churchill. Winston Churchill is rallying against Germany and Italy's Fascist Government. Italy was preparing to help in the war against the British by attacking British colonies in Africa.

On December 11, 1941 President Roosevelt gave the following message to the Congress of the United States:

"On the morning of Dec. 11 the Government of Germany, pursuing its course of world conquest, declared war against the United States. The long-known and the long-expected has thus taken place. The forces endeavoring to enslave the entire world now are moving toward this hemisphere. Never before has there been a greater challenge to life, liberty and civilization. Delay invites great danger. Rapid and united effort by all of the peoples of the world who are determined to remain free will insure a world victory of the forces of justice and of righteousness over the forces of savagery and of barbarism. Italy also has declared war against the United States.

"I therefore request the Congress to recognize a state of war between the United States and Germany, and between the United States and Italy."

I think what the question is asking is why were they called the Axis Powers. The answer is that when Germany and Italy entered into an alliance, the idea was that Rome and Berlin would form the axis of which Europe would be ruled. Japan came in later with their alliance and the Axis term got passed on to them as well.

Germany Italy and Japan had same political views and thought they were Superior to other countries of the world Japan did not wanted Germans the great power during that time to invade Japan as it would have lost their country if they did and secondly Japan was interested in the colonies acquired by the counter alliance(ca) in the Asian continent as for Italy the weakest nation formed the alliance because it wanted the Italian speaking provinces in the Ca's empire to increase its empire and didn't had much weapons to do it alone

Because, as it turned out, Germany and Japan both had world-conquest goals at the same time. Italy just kind of clung to Germany's coat-tails. It was a bad case of synchronicity.

Can you say Russia?
The Russians were a huge pain in the german *** and made it very difficult for them to conquer Europe.

What a coincidence the russians were a pain in the *** to the Japanese as well. Japan had several territory disputes with Russia and Japanese Imperialism kept led russia to make several threats about it keeping its distance.

In addition to having this common enemy, Japan either had already conqueered or had plans to conquer colonies that once belonged to Germany's enemies.

Italy switched sides.

Germany, Italy, and Japan forged the Triple Alliance because they wanted to be sure no country could attack them without paying heavily; an attack on one would be considered an attack on the three of them, so a single country wouldn't be able to stand up to them alone.

They all had the same desire to rule the world. Italy joined the allies when they saw the direction the war was going.
