Go the an Apple Store and pick up iMic. You plug the RCA plugs into your cassette player, and the other end goes into your USB port. It comes with software called Final Vinyl.

Import the files Final Vinyl made into iTunes, then convert them to mp4 format.

It's a bit labor-intensive, but it does work just fine.

If you know the name of the song, just download/buy the song. I'm not sure if there is any kind of software to do that, and if there was, it probably wouldn't be very clear once it's on the computer and would sound static-y and distant. I suggest just using a program to download or buy the songs online. If you don't know the name of the song or the artist, just listen to the song and type as many of the lyrics as you can into a search engine like Yahoo or Google and see if it will find a lyrics site. If you can find the lyrics online, it will provide you with the name of the song and artist so you can then download/buy it. That's what I did with all the songs I had on cassette tapes that I liked. Good luck!

You'd be better off just downloading the songs off the torrent sites, or with lime-wire. But if you really want to do it the hard way, you need a cable with a headphone plug on both ends (.125"), a cassette player, and voice recorder (a program on the computer to record with.) i am not familiar with a specific program for a mac, but I'm sure with minimal effort you can find one. hook the cassette player up to the cable, hook the other end of the cable to you mic/line in jack on your mac, hit record on the computer, and play on the cassette.

The only way I know to do it is to use a cassette player with a line out and plug that into your computer's line in. Then you have to have software like Real Player which allows you to record from the line in.

I downloaded a software "Spin It Again" by Acoustica on line for 30 bucks, just to get my cassette tape music on computer. It works good. Go to Acoustica site and download it.
