I feel like I'm being forced to choose between my best friend and my girlfriend. My friend refuses to even be civil or acknowledge my girlfriend and I can't figure out exactly why. She always has different excuses, such as: me deserving better. I have been hanging out with my best friend and it is really hurting my girlfriend in the meantime. I just want to know from adults or very enlightened younger people is it sometimes necessary to put a relationship first and give up a friend that won't compromise?

Your best friend is more important than your girlfriend. If your best friend has been there for you when you needed someone, you can really trust, then you better keep him cause you will not find another like him. Your girlfriend, there is plenty of fishes in the sea. If she can't accept you having a guy nite out then think what she would do and say if you were married. Same thing go for letting the women having their nite out. Fair is fair, but also it help to have a best friend to take a load off and not worry about any argument then you may with your girlfriend. Keep your best friend and dump your girlfriend unless she can come to term to accepting your bestfriend because he will always be there for you whether she likes it or not.

Unless you can find a balance between between the both than you need to seriously look at why your best friend doesnt like your girlfriend, if this is not a permanent relationship ie; leads to marriage etc, then your friend should come first. Telling you that you deserve better does not sound like an excuse, it sounds like she worries and cares about you and possibly for a good reason. Good friends are forever, you sound very young, and honestly, relationships at your age do not usually last very long, especially same sex relationships.

Speaking as a mom I will say this: Putting a friend before a bf/gf or fiance can cause devastating results. My son's fiance put her friend first. She never thought of how a single teenager could influence her. The results were her sneaking around, having a "fling" behind my son's back, and ultimately a terrible break up.

My point is: what is the depth of the bf/gf relationship? Is it serious? Can it withstand a separate relationship with another friend? Who will be there for the rest of your life? These are just some things to think about.

A true friend will always be there for you no matter what, a true friend is understanding that your happiness matters. For the poeple saying that you never put relationships before friends must have something gone wrong with theirs. How would you know if that person you passed on was your soulmate> just because of a jelaous friend> Do what you heart feels but remember that the people who truly love you and want the best for you will stand by you when the weather turns to sh!t.

This is tough. Your friend could be jealous because you're not with her, or because she dosen't have a man to spend time with. Depending on how long you've been in this relationship, that is more importmant if you plan on spending the rest of your life with your girlfriend. Simply tell your friend that if this is the person that you choose to be with, she should respect that (being your friend and all) and have some respect for your relationship in your presence. If she is truly your friend, she'll find her way to accept it.

It depends what the friend has against your girlfriend. If its something that you wouldnt want to happen to your friend then she is just being a loyal friend, but if its nit picking then the friend may just be jealous of your relationship. Its hard when one has to choose because of personality issues between ones friends. But there must be a reason for you to decide that you. It all really depends on which friend you want to keep.

friends should come before your significant other. because you don't know when your relationship will come to an end....and your friends should be for a life time. if the relationship was ment to be then they shouldn't have anything against you and hold you to anything because you want to see your friends/ hang out with them....

i know mine has not problem with me see any friends...but he's now in Texas(he's in the army) but when he's back in ohio i let him be with his buddies and i'm still hanging out with mine. we still make time for each other even though he won't be here for a long time.

relationships come and go and no one should ever make you chose. they should be happy for you no matter what if they were a friend to begin with.

First of all, your friends should accept your girlfriend because she loves you. Maybe you should sit your bestfriend down and explain to her that she's about to lose a friendship over sillyness. Maybe she'll come to her senses and act right. I hate to see you lose your friend over this...

Don't get me wrong, I don't advise you giving up a friendship over a girl; however, you can't let you friend decide who you date. That's not her place!
