good chance of getting a walk, let the pitcher throw a strike, if he has thrown 3 straight balls, see if he can throw you a strike

When the count goes the 3-0 the pitcher just concentrates on throwing a strike and the batter knows a strike is the only thing they can throw to that batter for the rest of the at bat. The batter waits for the best strike to hit and goes with it. Usually a batter only swings 3-0 if the pitch is right where they want it. And also a walk is obviously better than an out.

The reasoning is that they have a clean slate with no strikes against them. If the next pitch is a ball then they are on base and if it is a called strike the still have one more strike to work with before they have to start worrying about guarding the plate and having to foul off close pitches.
If they swing on a 3 and o count and ground out or pop up then a good opportunity to get on base will have been wasted. Also the more pitchs a pitcher throw the more fatigue becomes a factor and the likelyhood that he will make a bad pitch will increase over the course of nine innings. So most MLB hitters are playing the odds for the long run.

because the odds are in his favor. if the pitcher throws one more ball, the batter gets on base. If the batter can get on base without risking popping or grounding out, that's perfect.
If the pitcher throws a strike instead, the count is only 3-1. The batter is still up in the count at this point. This means that the pitcher is going to have to throw another strike down the middle of the plate to avoid walking the batter, and the batter can sit there and wait for it.

Because they are way ahead on the count, and will most likely get walked. If you swing and miss, that's not as good. If you swing and connect, there's a chance the ball will be caught or you won't beat the play at first. At 3 and 0, chances are better than average that the pitcher will walk you, which is a guarenteed base runner spot.

depends on how many on and what bases have runners on them.
Most of the tim is because even if the pitcher gets a fastball over and the batter doesn't swing then the pitcher still has to pitch at least another pitch and get it over and because a walk is as good as a hit,
*******Plus most likely the pitcher will walk the player on 3-0, that is what the stats say.*******

because the odds are against the pitcher throwing a strike. so coaches train batters to stand there and take one. versus if the count is 0-2 the batter will swing at anything close.

Because it is a batters count, and if he takes the pitch (not swinging) and its a strike, he has 2 more pitches to work with. If it's a ball, he takes the base. Nothing lost. Just good strategy!

Because the manger wants all the players to take the next pitch for a possible walk when they have a 3 and 0 count.

Because the Manager tells him not to, by way of the third base coach. Only the very elite players are given the "green light" on a 3-0 count

Well to be practical I assume you mean 3 Balls 0 Strikes. In which case the odds are that the next ball will be outside. He gets to walk for free, if not he still has two more chances to swing and hit.
