The WBTB method followed with MILD has brought me the most success in reaching lucidity. I recommend trying WILD. It's a harder technique but worth it. I've only succeeded once using WILD, and I've attempted it several times.

If you're not already familiar with the site, ld4all.com covers all kinds of methods and other things such as out of body experiences (have a hard time believing in these) and more.

Lucid dreaming, like anything else, takes practice. There are books on the subject, some kind of go into spiritual BS, but its really not complicated or mysterious.
Perhaps the best tip I have gotten so far is this:
Pick a night when you can sleep as long as you want (weekend, for example)
Pick a symbol that you will recognize easily, and "program" your brain to recognize it. Leave it around where you will see it a lot.
make sure the symbol has no other meanings attached to it (pepsi logo, for example)
Before you go to sleep on the selected night, concentrate on the symbol, with the intent that your waking mind will send it to your sleeping mind. When you see it in the dream, you will realize it for what it is, and become awake within the dream.
This may take a few tries, but it will work. THe biggest problem is that once you wake up within the dream, at least until you get used to it, you will believe that you have woken all the way up. It really feels that real. If you let yourself become persuaded at that point, it is possible that you will really wake up after all.
Instead, immediately upon waking within the dream, try some things that you know only would be possible in dreamland.
after a few successful sessions, it works pretty regularly.

One simple notion I've heard is if you think you might be dreaming, read something. Look away, then read it again. If it's changed, you're dreaming.

A way to learn to lucid dream was practiced by my friend, who says it works: Start getting into the habit of asking yourself, several times a day, "Am I dreaming?" Then try the reading thing above.

As it becomes a habit, you'll start doing it in your dreams, and can easily identify it as a dream.
