I would love to be able to rent a home for the week in another state. I think it would be cheaper than a hotel, and you would be "house sitting" at the same time.. of course it would have to be upscale..........I wouldn't want to stay in a plain house.....
would you consider this? or is this a stupid idea?

( I also wish I knew of a family like for example in New York that would trade houses for a week w/ me...... but I know I would be so paranoid,,,, They should come out w/ "House Swap".
Tell me what you think!

There are actually networks for house sitters.
Here's a start.

I'd check them out a bit before you make any commitments. It would suck to travel somewhere and find out you'd been scammed..or worse, set-up.

No, folks do this all the time especially if there is some event going on in their city that has all the hotels full, the Super Bowl comes to mind instantly. Folks are willing to either rent rooms or their houses, some even get timeshares just so they can rent them out and make a profit. It is worth looking into so keep up the thoughts on it, it would be worth it if you could find a good deal. Good luck!!

Yes look on line under vacation homes...you may also want to rent a timeshare for the week...you get all of the benefits of being in a home or condo along with the great benefits of a resort...expedia.com is good for those type rentals.

I think you would be better of renting a rental house. There are people that buy homes, furnish them, and then rent them out. http://www.vacancynet.com/search_rentals.aspx This way you can rent from a company and you don't feel like you are invading someone else's space. There are a lot of rentals in beach towns and vacation spots, but you can find them almost anywhere.

Vacation / investment home -- yes, quite common.

Renting out your primary residence for a week -- very bad idea and a terrible liability -- certainly not worthwhile for either party, unless they're trusted friends.

I have a house in Niagara Falls, NY area, very nice ranch house made with brick and a large front and backyard in a mostly quiet neighborhood. I'll consider letting you stay here if you'll cut the grass! hahaha, just kidding, you don't have to cut it!

I have never heard of anyone doing this. It sounds like a bad idea. You can have things damaged and stolen and you wouldn't know it until you got back and there's nothing you can do about it. You also have strange people in your house.
