First, install and run one or two anti-spyware programs (recommended are Ad-aware and SpyBot), just to be sure.
Second, download and install Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/ ).
After installing Firefox, if you are still getting pop ups, download the extension Adblock (go to Tools->Extensions->Get more extensions).
This extension will let you block, not just pop ups, but any javascript, flash, or images from sites. This will also speed up your browsing as you don't have to wait to download annoying ads.

Find out who is responsible for sending them and have them murdered... (Please!) Other than that, there are also "pop-unders" and various ways to drive people to the brink. Are the pop ups related to your ISP or browser? Some will allow their own crap through and still block other stuff...It may also be an indicator of "spyware" "malware" or a virus on your machine. So check that out too. Are you new to computers, or just got a new one? Either way, I like to use Trend Micro Housecall sometimes. It's a free online virus scan and pretty good...Trend Micro recently found 6 nasty little bugs (Trojans Worms and Dialers) in my computer when my resident anti-virus program didn't...Or I also like "grc.com" for security info and enlightenment... Hope this helps...

pop up blocker do block popups, but it doesn't mean all software pop blocker will work, only those will help you that have market value and name like norton antivirs and firewall/internet security. you may also use macfee software for the same purpose, look fo it. don't get a below standard company blocker, proceed for best.

new? then you need to get best protection before doing to much surfing to keep it new.i have found that 1 of the best is spyware doctor.the paid version has all but fire wall built in.and it will get rid of trojens when norton/spybot-search&destroy/one care live/etc. wont.and then stop all from getting there in first place, and of course you'll need a good fire wall.spyware doctor is avalible on line or at walmart.$30.00 and well worth every cent.no pop ups and no addware get through and has real time protection.etc.good deal
