It is illegal for any person to put any article of mail that has not gone through the proper channels of the US Postal System, meaning that a mail carrier could not even on duty take mail with stamps on them that had not been circulated through the postal system and put them in the postal mail box of another; it would be a federal offense by a federal employee.

As others have correctly observed, only a postal employ may put letters in someone's mail box.

Technically, yes.

The mailbox, even a 'private' mailbox, is technically the property of the U.S. Postal Service. By putting a letter in the mailbox, you are circumventing the USPS, competing and threatening the government-established courier service. The USPS is necessary for trade, business, and must remain unfettered and operational. (Fedex or UPS could conceivable go out of business, although unlikely).

Yes. It's a federal offense as a matter of fact. Nothing can be placed on or in a mailbox unless you are the owner of said mailbox or a USPS employee.

Now stop being a cheap bastard and use a stamp.

It is illegal for an individual to put ANYTHING into someone else's mailbox! If you find out who it is you can report it, but I believe the USPS will handle pressing the charges. Even worse, if it's threatening.

Much Love!!

No. Unless these letters pose a threat.
If the messages contained with in the letters are offensive, demeaning, or if the letter should contain "unknown substances" then yes.
