Should I buy a rail pass in advance... I am not sure where I want to go... I was thinking about Frankfurt to prague to vienna to budapest then either to romania or to poland...

How expensive are single tickets in this area? I am not sure exactly where I want to go. Would you recommend buying a rail pass online or buying individual tickets? I know Western Europe its cheaper for a rail pass but im not sure about eastern...

Thanks!

You can pretty much always buy a day card, so you can go on a train all day long, and it doesn't matter what train or when!

Good Luck in Europe!

Well it is pretty helpful if you have a planned itinerary in December 2006 in order to know what rail options are available to you. It also helps to know for how long your train journey will be for, as it will affect pricing as a whole.

But as a traveller and Owner of a Travel Agency, I can tell you that it is cheaper in the long run if you get a rail pass for a set period of time and for a certain destination or destinations that you have in mind. Single tickets are ok if you're going on a limited itinerary and/or on a limited Travel budget.

But if you truly want to save some money it is adviseable to purchase the rail pass in advance. Last minute buying tends to cost more. If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger, we can see which rail options would make the most sense depending on your proposed itinerary and your Travel Budget.

Eastern Europe is very very cheap ESPECIALLY ROMANIA.... you sholud come and visit bucharest, sighisoara(kinda medieval city), or Bacau (you can see real live bear at the outskirts of the city - just ask the taxi driver 2 take you there-), also try Poiana Brasov or Vatra Dornei very beutifull areas/resorts ........ Hope i was of some help, bye

I've had friends who had travelled through Eastern Europe in the past on trains. What advice I can give is that you should make sure not to get pickpocketed and/or robbed. Also, always make sure to have your passport on you (in a non-visible and easily-accessible place) always!

it's cheap enough. especially in Romania. with less than 80 euros you can see the whole country, but if you're just passing, it's about 30 euros.
