I hate to break it to you, but watering in the morning is the best. Second choice is the early evening. Both are right, but if you water in the evening, your plants have a much higher risk of disease and fungus. Never water in the middle of the day on a hot day unless the plant is dying. You will just burn them up. The best solution is to mulch with a good organic mulch. Water before you put the mulch down and the soil will stay cooler and retain water a lot longer. You will only have to water every other day or so and remember, water deeply so the plants will develop deep root systems. Water the holes before putting plants in the ground. If you water a lot, and just at the surface, thats where the plants roots are and you have to water all the time. Not to mention, if you miss a watering on a really hot day, you will probably lose the plants because of the shallow roots. Good Luck!

I like to know too.Can we find out together?

Suggest this plan of action:

1. Take 2 similar looking plant.
2. Grow them 1 meter apart.
3. Label Plant 1 Morning and Plant 2 Evening
4 Get Your husband to water Morning in the Morning
5. Yourself to water Evening in the Evening
6. Compare results after 2 to 4 weeks.

Note: You may want to repeat the process for each season of the year.

Publish your results here.

I prefer to water early evening as the hot sun doesn't just dry the water up. This way the plants have all night to absorb the water and not dry out as fast as if I watered in the morning.

When is the best time to water my plants? A ~ Early morning is the best, because the plants have a chance to soak ...
I personaly think both times are a good time for watering, at night time after the sun goes down also allows water to soak and thus your plants will not be burnt by the sun...

Your Hubbie ...

Watering in the A.M. is MUCH better. It goets the plants well hydrated for the coming hot day, while the excess water will evaporate
..Which isa good thing, as lingering water can promote mold and mildew, as well as a variey of plant diseases. Watering in the evening
can lead to these same problems , as the excess water won't evaporate till morning.
Still, its better to water in the evening , than not at all...

I know that experts say to water in the morning but I still water in the evening. If you live in a real hot desert area I would say water in the morning and the evening. They say that plants are more prone to disease and mold if you water in the evening. I say water when you want to because whose plants are they? Yours right!!!! BE CAREFUL OF WATERING WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE BECAUSE YOU COULD SCORCH THE LEAVES OF THE PLANTS IF YOU DO

Your husband is right this time. Watering in the morning allows moisture to help to go straight to where it is needed. Sometimes you you can't water in morning. Watering in evening is better then nothing, but keep in mind it attracts snails and other pests that prey on wet leaves and chew them. Worst of all is Fungi that can spread quickly and really do a job on Hosta, Roses, and welcome unwanted insects, especially termites!

morning is better, because the sun comes out to evaporate the water later in the day, evening is ok, but more chance of mold
