I see references to "White Papers" but I am not sure what one is.

there like case studies for lack of a better word. about a product.

If Im launching a new product I have a white paper written to describe its features, technological advancements, ect.

Yeh used a lot in IT, as authoritative short view on particular topic. If you can get them written by a third party they're almost a product/service endorsement. Theyre not really meant as case studies/success stories.
