your right CWOO
Its all about the person you see but ultimately what type of birth experience are you after
If you choose a midwife
it will be a natural birth with minimal analgesia and encouragement on mobility massage showers and even possibly home birth
If you choose an obstetrician
your options are there for epidural caesarian and hospital birth. Sadly your chances of forceps vacuum and episiotomy arehigher in this group
Are you high risk (have major medical or health issues) if yes go the obstetrician
Are you normal and healthy and want minimal intervention go the midwife
STATISTICAL OUTCOMES
it is a known fact that the morbidity and mortality rate of mothers and babies is no different if you choose a midwife or an obstetrician.
Thus its all about the birth experience you want

The National Center for Health Statistics reports that in 1998, 277,811 births were Certified Nurse Midwife attended in the United States. And that's not counting lay midwives and others.
I've had a midwife with my first two and will with my third - due in August.

I used an OB for my first and a midwife for this one. I loved my doctor and I love my midwife. It's more about the person and their experience than their title. Interview more than one person, find someone you like and trust.

A lot. I'm pregnant with my first baby and we decided to go with a midwife instead of an ob.

I have seen three different midwifes and they all seem incompetent but its a little late in my pregnancy to switch to a real doctor. So if its your first pregnancy I would suggest seeing an actual doctor.

I am having a midwife for this pregnancy. Because I am having a VBAC, she will not push me into having another caesarean, and I will have constant care with her.

I didn't use a midwife, but used a doula. She was so much help and support - I highly recommend one.

This is a question for your national health services.
I used a midwifery service although a doctor did attend shortly after the birth.
