Yes every team in their division does right now .. what they need to do is stop being a medicore team and start playing to their potential ..i mean they're last in the division , but they're only four games out!! .. they have a good team .. could be better if they didnt have the over paid beltre and sexson .. of course beltre looked like a huge pick up when they got him .. but what a dissapointment .huh? .. unfortunatley i do not think they will make it this year .. hopefully next year they get some bats or Beltre and sexsons bats come back to life .. wow , could you imagine that .. they'd be good contenders if that could happen.

The Mariners have a small chance. Despite being only 4 games out of 1st, they are in last place to 3 teams all right there at the same record. There are a lot of games to be played still in the AL West, so even if they go on a tear against Texas, Oakland, and Anaheim, if one of those teams also gets hot against division opponents (and the way the Human Brain Delay is managing our team into the ground we're least poised to get hot as the season drags on) the M's won't make any progress. To win the AL West this year will take anywhere from 87-90 wins, and from here if the Mariners are to get to that point they need to play .600 baseball - pretty much what the Tigers and White Sox have been doing this year. Even then, they'd likely get eaten alive in the playoffs by stronger teams. In my personal opinion, though as a diehard M's fan it pains me to say this, it's possible, but not very likely. We need to fire Hargrove (whose horrible management has cost us 3 games in the last 3 days alone, and countless more over the season) and bring up Dan Rohn from Tacoma (an excellent in-house candidate who already has proven to work well with our increasingly young team). Willie Bloomquist, Julio Mateo, Joel Pineiro, and Carl Everett need to go. We'd need to shore up the rotation with a 5th starter at the trade deadline, preferably by trading some or all of the above names. Finally, bring up Choo and Snelling from Tacoma. Together with Jones those three are the immediate offensive future of this ballclub (not counting now proven MLB talent Lopez and Betancourt), and even if they don't get hot right away, they will learn much like Lopez did over the last 2 years and hopefully start performing like him down the stretch or next year (when I believe we will be serious contenders if Hargrove is 86'd and we don't sabotoge the future core of the team on a stupid trade deadline pickup for someone like Alfonso Soriano who won't help us this year and will end up leaving in free agency anyway).

I say convinced, they have a sturdy possibility this season. To be the position they at the prompt are with out the middle of the lineup hitting is fantastic. The pitching and the different aspects of the lineup are conserving them playing sturdy ball so a techniques. in basic terms imagine the way it will be even as clicking on all cylinders. i am hoping they can win the AL West and go back to playoffs once lower back, quite if it really is Griffey's plausible very last season it will be so sweet to work out him lower back interior the playoffs with the Mariners. On a very last word, i do not imagine the different AL West communities a minimum of at this aspect are somewhat that sturdy so i imagine the Mariners can make the most of that.

Mariners? Their pitching isn't any good! Pineiro is average.. Jaime Moyer is average.. Adrian Beltre is way below average. Richie Sexson the king of striking out.. he's average and hits for a low average. All you got is Ichiro who's awesome! Raul Ibanez could be an all star within the next couple of years.. and Jose Lopez who's struggling the last couple of weeks. You guys need a lot of work to be done to that pitching rotation.

They do have a chance. All they need is an extra arm in the rotation, and do more hit and runs with guys like sexson and beltre. If the Mariners do more hit and runs, beltre and sexson will eventually start hitting!

They have very talented players. I would say they need a talented pitching staff as well. Like trading Ichiro for 2 good starters and getting a few good position players should have them up and running in the AL West.

No chance at all. They need to trade Ichiro for several prospects and rebuild
