Relax, have a little faith yourself. You have talent, and it will come out of you if you let it. If you know what genre you want to write about, you have a good start. And Stephen King's a good place to look for inspiration. She's done a lot of horror classics: two psychic girls, one a firestarter, the other a telekinetic, a haunted hotel, vampires, the end of the world, a rabid dog, people with split personalities, aliens, ghoulish pets. . .etc. If those don't appeal to you, try something else. Horror is nearly endless with possibilities and even Stephen King hasn't tapped all the resources, yet. :}. You can make it scary but hold off the language and gore a bit, and you're fine. If you don't like language or gore, don't write it. That's your choice. Other than that, I say go for it. Hope I was some help.

So am I.
I am trying to write a short story, a science fiction action/adventure, with a topic that happened 20 years ago. I'll explain a bit.
With any topic, a writer can write a short story based on facts, speculation (which leads to speculative science fiction), or a story unto its own entirety.
As with writing any story, a writer named Orson Scott Card eloquently described it as a solitary art. He's right. As with writing any story, we need to keep thinking of our current story to rethink and plan the plotline, structure our characters to put them in places where it's believable.
With my short story, I'm writing about the topic of Chernobyl's disaster twenty years ago with elements such as time travelers, a KGB agent, and a small force to hunt them down. What really focuses on Chernobyl is how it will be affected by those time travelers even though it's purely science fiction.
So any topic can be written in any form of writing. Just be careful about what you write though.
Have fun writing! :)

Get a good agent. And write a killer story. Watch every movie you see and read every book you see, taking mental notes on what you admire and what to twist for your story.

I don't know how you think, but I recommend brainstorming or outlining.
You need to find a story that you make from inside yourself.

think of two unlikely things and then consider a likely way for them to come together.
There you have it.
