All those free peer to peer download servers are notorious for having hackers and spammers sending out fake stuff. And believe it or not some of the recording companies are responsible for sending out the spy-ware but you are pirating their music.

Well, there are spy ware and viruses around it. But it is OK if you don't download it. I have used Lime Wire for a long time and to avoid viruses you have to be smart about what you download; because most viruses are pretty small files. So when you download just check to see if there is anything wrong with the file. For example if you are downloading a song and the size of it is a few hundred ks then you shouldn't download the file, the same goes for videos and everything else.

That is a horrible place to download from. I tried it and detected at least a dozen viruses and unwanted spyware in 16 downloads.
Use Itunes or Napster. Much safer

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! My son downloaded it today and got 10 songs. Next thing you know, the whole computer froze up. It disabled my McAfee antivirus and then downloaded who knows what!!! It got through my firewall too I suppose, because he allowed the download. The computer had to be shut off by hand, and would not reboot. I had to take it to my brother in laws for repair of windows boot files. Even my boot disc wouldn't let the darned thing reboot!! DON'T DO IT! You will be sorry.
I am thankful it is OFF my computer and out of my life. Pay for your music, it's worth it!! Also my friend who knows much about computers mentioned his cousin also having a complete computer crash right after installing LIMEWIRE.

Lime wire is full of idiots. It's a great way of passing on and testing new undetectable viruses.

limewire.com is opensource.

that means programmers can change its behavior and that the person who wrote limewire probably uses it.

Because the source code is open, if there was a spyware component, a programmer would take it out.

therefore open source prevents spyware and therefore limwire is not spyware.

download it, its great.

for more open source programs:
sourceforge.net
