To my mind this adage is more often wrong than right!. For example I do not have a lot of truck with Judaism but agree with their actions against supposed enemies over the past few weeks.
Zinedine Zidane was also right in my opinion if the
circumstances were as he described in the World Cup final. Persistent thieves might be given the choice of hand amputation or death to stop their transgressions.. All three of the above actions would be condemned by the lily-livered brigade but to me would be perfectly correct.

The same way you justify not paying an employee who doesn't show up for work. Can you call it "unjust" to not reward a person for not following the rules? I don't think so. LOL A person in prison is not currently really, and truly punished. They are just being deprived of what others who follow the rules have earned the right to have.

Prison is primarily to protect the rights of everyone on the outside. Its not acutally a "wrong " at all. It is a way of removing those that cannot be trusted to live amongst others. That does not mean I agree with or support how our prisons are run or the messed up laws and racism employed to lock away those that commit crimes.

WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM, and what do you suggest as an alternative to prison then? Build more I say, get the dregs of society off the streets for good, then we can all sleep at night without worrying if someone's going to break into the house, car or garage. Walk safely at night without the worry of being stabbed, mugged or raped. They don't deserve freedom, they cause so much trauma to everyday law abiding citizens and they don't bloody care what they do as long as they get the money for their next fix. Send them to the poppy fields of Afghanistan if they want drugs so badly, there they can take as much as they like, it won't cost a penny in rehab and when they're dead bury them in the fields.

Prisons are deterrant. They create fear that many may not comit crime.Prisons are for the safety of innocents. How ever present system of prisons, undertrials in prisons etc require re examination.Jails should aim to reform inmates/criminals and try to bring them into main stream. There should be clear distinction between hardened criminals and offenders who regret and intend to reform themselves,if opportuinity is given.

What? Hell, two wrongs can land you in the prison, so what is to justify.

The punishment of a crime has two components: the "reward" for the crime and the example set for other people who might be tempted to take the path of crime. The second is more important than the first.
