Perhaps in the 60's. but now a few greedy people have changed our values, the way we treat people and have dropped the word "Fair" entirely from our vocabulary!!
You would have never seen anyone making 168 MILLION a year, nor would you have to pay close to 1/4 MILLION for an undergraduate degree!
We need to stop GIVING OUR MONEY to the wealthy. There is already too large a gap between the rich and the middle income, and it festers resentment.
We need to re educate people who think that this world belongs to them and screw everyone else! One of these day's they will get there's!
We have to include people rather than exclude them. A question earlier today was why isn't America white? We have too many racist, bigots and homophobes running around and who in the world taught them their views, and why do they lack civility!
We need to take OUR Congress. and OUR White House, and OUR Supreme Court from business. This country does not belong to them!!

I'm a Canadian, so I don't actually live in your country. I do however speak with Americans every single day in my line of work.
I'd like to just for one example, point out to you my experience during a trip to the United Arab Emerates over Christmas, where my daughter and son-in-law were working.
You see, that country is also full of people who are from other countries, who go there to work and send the money back home.
While my son-in-law made $250 per day, the "cook" at their residence was only expected to earn about $400 per month! That was peanuts, but it was still more than they made back where he came from and he still had money to send back home as well. I should also mention that he spoke 5 languages, and had medical training, but it wasn't recognized anywhere but back home.
Two outstanding things here is not just that with all the wealth in the UAE, that the cook only made what he did, but there was such racial disparities that were allowed and encouraged.
Everywhere I went, because I was white, I was treated with dignity and respect, but anyone who wasn't a national and had coloured skin was treated with contempt.
I have to say that they have much to learn about compassion.
Also, because these workers had to come from so far away to earn money to send home, things can't have been so great where they come from either, if they'd put up with such abuse for such little pay.
I have to also say that I was dissappointed with the migrant workers' protests in the USA as well. I think they're being treated quite nicely when compared with my experience in Abhu Dhabi.
So, to answer your question, there are certainly things that could be improved, there are many many things you can be thankful for.

YES 100xYES
in general its great!
there are some rough places and rude people here and there but far and away its better than nearly anywhere in Europe
In USA individual still have rights, can raise money for businesses,
Some people get into a lot of trouble with poor choices and want to run away from their responsibilities but that's people everywhere
Sure Europe's got safety nets for junkies and a minimal health care for all but the taxes will crush your dreams
USA would be better if there were no black market drugs
I suggest poisoning the captured coke and weed and herion and redistributing it to the suckers, a couple of cycles and the probelm should be gone

NO. It is an aristocracy that likes to think it has fooled the populace into thinking they have a choice. The reality is the wealthy plutocracy chooses the nominees, the populace can only select from the choices provided.
American's like to beat their chests about their freedoms. Freedom to do what exactly? Work for the large multinational corporation of your choice? Gripe until all energy to motivate you to change society has been dissipated?
In order for a capitalism based democracy to work, the wealth has to be evenly redistributed once or twice every generation.
Education should be free. Health care should be free for diseases that are not self inflicted.

American principles are always Fair. the goodwill of the people of America is always fairness and justice.
Have our priciples changed? a resounding NO. changes we have allowed to take place or compromised to "accodomate every type of idea of fairness" has gotten out of hand and we are paying the price... and when all is said and done... there is no nation on this earth that has done more in the name of Justice, Peace and Fairness than America athome and abroad.

Absolutely fair and just and the quality of life is the best in the world. You can look at all the negative aspects and say otherwise, but focusing on mistakes has never got anyone anywhere, other than preventing the mistakes from reoccurring.

You're right. It sucks here. You should leave. Go live in one of those fantastic socialist democracies in Northern Europe. Better yet, move to North Korea.

I've heard it said that America has the worst form of government -- except for all the others! Seriously, I would rather live nowhere else in the good ol' U.S. of A.
What could be improved? Hmmm, a completely Republican government... yes, I believe that would do it.

For people that have money, I believe it is fair and just, but for the poor, it isn't. In a way, I believe the American system is set up so that degrees of freedom and fairness can be bought.

No.....................
Definitely not. If there anywhere that injustice has taken place because of America, then it can be a far and just society.
I would not like to be called American. I have given my views on other posts too.
America is a society that has violated human rights.
Ask Mr. Bush. He knows.
