Boys have a fatter tail (where he keeps his personal equipment), long foreclaws, more brightly colored, and there is a notch in the plastron (bottom shell) under the tail to move his tail toward the female after mounting her. It's hard to tell as these traits appear after they have grown up some and approching adulthood.

If your red eared sliders are about 4 inches or less, it can be really hard to tell. But as they get older, it gets a little easier. If the nails of your red eared sliders are long, maybe about 1 or 2 inches or so , it is a boy. If you really can't tell, you should take them to a vet. They would know for sure. If they breed, don't panic. Just care for their children as you care for the parents.

look at thier bottom shells.the boys will have a large dent in the bottom shell, while the girls bottom shell will be relatively flat.as far as your enclosure is concerned, is it large enough for three turtles and does it have water and a place to get out of the water?a light and a place to bask is required or they won't remain healthy.if they breed, all you can do is wait to see if the eggs will hatch, but if the enclosure is too small, throwing the eggs away is probably best.

i _think_ that you can sex turtles by looking at their shells. females wont be as smooth/rounded as the males because it needs to be shaped so that the male can fit on top.
someone also told me that you can tell by the length of the tails but i cant remember.

Ask one of them a question. If it talks for hours, it's a girl!
