If you use an AC unit as I assume you may have until you asked this Q, you may as well be using a $19 Wal Mart Box fan.

As many of the others have said you can mount it through the wall. You could put it under the garage door if it is the type that rolls up but you would need to seal the rest of the opening and it would do a mediocre job and of course remove it to secure the door when done.
The heat load in the garage would also be a factor. If it is not insulated and the door has air leakage you would need a fairly large unit to cool it off and then you could not expect it to be very comfortable.

If you're thinking of putting it on something table, floor whatever then no wouldn't rec commend it, need a place to exhaust the air & to draw in fresh air. If not, then you need to choose a safe location where you can cut a hole in the wall, be sure to shore up between the studs to support the weight of the ac. If not sure how to do this yourself talk to someone at your local hardware store or do it yourself place & get their reccommendations of what you need to do to make sure you don't damage the wall or your ac unit. Also, need to make sure your wiring is able to support the amount of juice the ac is going to need. Again, best bet is to consult some experts with the details of what you want/need to do before proceeding.

Of course. You just need to cut a hole big enough for the AC unit and make sure it is reinforced or framed to hold the weight.
Run your electric safely to the garage or into an outlet and your ready to go.

No. I have window AC in my barn. In order to make it useful, I cut a hole in the side of the barn big enough to fit it in, in effect I made a window.
The reason you must have a window is this: To make cool air the unit ends up making hot air (it is removing the hot air in your room). This hot air must be blown to the outside and the cool air must be blown to the inside, thus cooling the room.

Just cut a hole in the wall the right size and support it well.
BUT...........Unless the garage is well insulated and the big door is sealed it won't do much good.

It must be mounted such that the hot air produced is exhausted somewhere else, i.e. outside the house.

unfortunately not sorry...it's called a window unit because it needs a window to pull air in chill it and blow it out into the room...
