It's more exciting to think that there is...if you're a Trekkie, the alien race of the Borg was fascinating and frightening at the same time, they were more advanced than us and had the accompanying weapons that we were mostly defenseless against.

I don't believe in aliens in the sense of abductions, UFOs, etc, but I do believe in life on other planets, and that we will meet new life someday, if we learn how to go into space without increasing our risk of cancer and death from cosmic rays.
