I work as the cashier at a restaurant and I'm the one on packs up the take out orders. Anyways, the kitchen staff sometimes gets the order wrong and all my coworkers scold me in front of the customers. It's so embarassing!! Even if I tell them it wasn't my fault, they still blame me because all of them are friends with eachother and I'm new. I would quit, but that's not really an option for me right now. Any advice on how to handle this?

A suggestion might be to mention to your boss that orders are made incorrectly and customers are becoming dissatisfied. Find out why the orders are made wrong. Are you instructing the staff clearly? Are they understaffed? Just let them see they can't walk all over you but treat you with respect and dignity.

I understand how the kitchen works. The cooks cook and you pack. You're essentially responsible for ensuring the contents of an order is proper. There must be a lot of pressure on you because a kitchen can have more then 100 items. Before you close the lid on a food item and wrap it away, ask the cooks to confirm what he/she has made. If what they made is incorrect, notify them politely.

You need to stand up to the leader of the clique when you know you are absolutely right and are able to defend yourself. This will gain the respect of this person and the rest of their cronies will follow suit.

I work in a restaurant also and that's how they work.

Why is quitting not an option? You can get the same job at another restaurant and not have to put up with harrassment.

Speak to the manager. It is poor behavior to dress down or insult an employee in front of the patrons. It makes everyone uncomfortable.

Stick up for your self. They will give you respect if they see you can stick up for your self, and then you will be friends with them as well. Just remember when another new person starts, not to treat them the same way.
