She has a habit of asking questions just to stir people up. Ignore her. (She also asked how much it costs to get your tubes tied because she'd tired of having abortions every couple of months!)

no, you cannot. Pinworms enter through breaks in the skin after coming in contact with contaminated animal feces. A good example would be a cut on the foot. Another reason why young children get worms is holding young pups or kittens that have worms and then putting their hands in their mouth. It comes from the animal's feces. Symptoms are anal itching at night, because the worms actually lay the eggs outside the rectum.....I know its gross...but its true. And dont worry about the toilet seat..thats crazy.

People can catch worms, but these parasites don't live long on hard surfaces such as toilet seats. As gross as this may sound people get worms and other digestive tract related illnesses because they don't wash their hands after voiding and the bacteria enters the body through the MOUTH. I would bet $100 that the bacteria in the bathrooms of our homes are just as numerous as those found in public.

Most establishments, especially restaurants, clean every surface of their restrooms every single day. Do we?

yes, it is possible...if somebody leaves residue or feces on the the seat then it's very possible to get worms from another person. Just be sure before you sit down on the seat to either check it thoroughly or wipe it off and always wash your hands, especially if it's a public restroom...hope this helps

Most worms (mind you, I said *most*) have to go through an intermediate host before they can infect another person. Even those that can infect directly generally have to be consumed. If you're putting poop in your mouth, you've got problems; wash your hands and you shouldn't have to worry about it.

In any event, if there's visible poop on any surface it needs to be cleaned up (or avoided); there's a lot more common things than worms to worry about - like hepatitis, Salmonella, various strains of E. coli, and so on.

I hope nobody is eating while they read this... :)

Yes, you can, but it's rare. Use a toilet seat cover.
The most common worm pinworms (at least in the US), are transfered by someone who has the eggs under their nails (from scratching) and then touches someone else who puts their hand in their mouth or they touch someone's food, etc... About 10% of kids will get them eventually. Symptoms include severe itching, usually at night.
Wash hands frequently, especially if you work with kids like in a day care of school, use toilet seat covers.
Treatment is simple. 2 pills taken 2 weeks apart. (Had to deal with this with one kid...it's nasty, but way easier to deal with than lice...or so I've heard).
btw...the "girl" who posted that was kidding. Look at her other posts.

Yes, you can get worms. Most of the time, they are "tape worms." Look it up on google (or yahoo)

Treatment is pretty simple though, by taking one or two pills. The common source is dirt (ie. playing with dirt and not washing), unwashed vegetables (rare if bought commercially), fish (rare also) and any type of contaminated food that may have the worm themselves or eggs.

Very unlikely you get it from public bathroom.

You bet you can. Worms can survive..I believe 7 days (don't quote me on that) but it is a while. I always squat, or wipe of the seat really good with TP before I sit down.

you can get more than just that from a public toilet seat. specially when it is a high volume restroom ie: movie theatre or wal-mart. you can contract crabs (pubic lice), hepatitis B C or even E (which you can also contract through bad drinking water, highly unlikely in U.S.)

Yes, but it is not likely. If she really has them she probably got them from sleeping with or in the same bed as someone who has them.
Tape worms and pin worms are not the same thing. google it and find out for yourself!!!!!!!
