put it in the form of y=mx+b
m=slope and the y intercept is where x=0
so plug 0 in for x and see what the y intercept is
-17y=-19x+4
divide by -17 on each side
y=19/17(0)-4/17 you plugged 0 in for x
y=-4/17 (y intercept)
m=19/17 (slope)

learn it yourself and if you don't get it ask your teacher

there are many ways to solve it putting it into slope intercept from, point slope equation, or you can solve it when already in standard form. When in standard form the slope is the opposite of the coefficient of x which is -19 divided by the coefficient of y which is -17. So the slope is is 19/17; 1.117647...; 1 and 2/17.
Note: A coefficient is the number in front of the variable.
to find the y-intercept in standard form simply plug in zero for x and solve for y same thing works if you wish to solve the x-intercept(if you make y zero and solve for x)

Anyway
19(0)-17y=4 so the y intercept is -4/17

so for the equation 19x-17y=4; slope= 19/17; y intercept= -4/17

slope of the line=19/17
y-intercept=4/17

19x - 17y = 4 Get it into y=mx+b form.
-19x ..........-19x

(-1)(-17y)=(-1)(-19x+4) Mulitply both sides by -1

(1/17)(17y)=(1/17)(19x-4) Divide both sides by 17

y = 19/17x - 4/17

By the way, Patty...? I just checked out the questions you've asked so far. How about getting a math tutor so you'll LEARN it rather than just getting the answers...? Come test time, you'll be in a world of hurt, girl... Having the answers won't do you any good if you don't know HOW to get them.

minus 19x from both sides you should have -17y=4-19x now you have to divide that all by negative 17
which i am incapple of doing my head!!!
Then the slop = THe number in front of x and y intercept = 4 over -17 what ever that is

you have to put this equation in slope-intercept form(y=mx+b) to start with. therefore, you get y=(19x)/17-(4/17). the slope would be 19/17 and the y-intercept would be 4/17. hope i'm right

19x - 17y = 4
17y = 19x - 4
y = (19/17) x - (4/17)

slope is 19/17
y intercept is -4/17

2006-07-17 23:09:38 · answer #7 · answered by T 3 · 0 0

17y=19x-4
y= (19x)/17 - 4/17
therefore:
slope(m) = 19/17
y-intercept = -4/17

do some basic algebra to put it in a form of y=mx+b. m is the slope and b is the y intercept. why do you need to know this if you don't really know the concepts?? (no offense but slope-intercept form is pretty basic)

you need to put the equation into y=Mx + B form.

The B will be your intercept, the M will be your slope.
