Astrology for Beginners by William W Hewitt. This gives the basics, meaning of the signs, the planets, elements, modalities, rulers, houses, aspects and chart casting. Linda Goodman's sun sign book is a very good book but it is only about sun signs (which most people think is all there is to astrology), and not horoscope chart casting.

Linda Goodman's Sun Signs. I've read it and I love how she goes into the details of each zodiac without sounding too 'bookish'. In short, its not boring to read. Check it out. :)
