Somebody emailed me this "question," including the glib statement that we're not using our constitution any more. My response will be the same as when I received the email.

Of course we still use our constitution. It still controls how we govern ourselves. We still follow very nearly all of it's rules. True, our government prints paper money and that isn't authorized. True, the 14th amendment was written by men who were not very smart and our judges are having a dickens of a time trying to figure out how to apply it without looking like hypocritical liars. True, the Establishment Clause is one we'll probably never figure out. But I'd say that we are still using virtually all of our constitution.

I wouldn't want to give Iraq the 14th amendment of our constitution. Waaaaaaaaay too vague. Their judges will spend the next 150 years making themselves look like a******s trying to interpret it if Iraq copies our 14th amendment.

That is a great question. The U.S. constitution is a great document indeed. However, it does have some limitations and flaws. Congress for instance has changed its ways since their inception into power. Congress needs to live up to its constitutional obligations and cease the practise of delegating legislative powers to administrative agencies; legislation should be passed by Congress not by unelected administration officials.

I could go on and on but in reality, a constitution that grants limits on terms for representative government will be the best bet. Democracy is about the choice of the people. Senators and representatives need to listen to what their local constituents are saying and stop voting for what they themselves want.

Ha-ha! That is a funny question. "And we're not using it anymore?" Hilarious!

Bush should suggest it.

No. Seriously? If he did that the whole Muslim world would revolt. They already think America is trying to take over the planet.

Each country needs to form its own constitution, no matter how messed up. The "will of the people" sort of thing.

because iraq is muslim and they dont wanna print in god we trust on the money. ok kidding there are 3 groups of people there and they need to come to a compromise. there are the sunnies the shyites and a group not many know about called the kurds. all 3 hate eachother equally so now you have to have of government made up of all of them and have them try to agree on one paper

Because we're "not running" that country--we're "moving them in the right direction" toward their own constitution. They still don't even like the word democracy--what makes you think they would like our constitution.....
