you need to right click on my computer and go to properties in system properties go to advance then start up and recovery and under system failure uncheck automatic restart but it sounds like your computer or video card is getting to hot if you have an ati video card look at the power connector if its burnt it has a loose connection check to see if it has dust under the fans and blocking the heat sink its common if you just glance you might not see the dust

If your computer has an athlon processor there is a big chance you may be experiencing heating problems. Thermal problems don't appear abruptly, they begin as very seldom and keep getting worse and worse....
May be you are dealing with a virus. Try using a virus detection program.
Also, if you (or someone else) moved or accidentally kicked the CPU, there is a slight chance the RAM chips may have moved sligthly out of their sockets. You may try taking them out and replacing them.
Finally, you may cosider clearing the BIOS of your computer. This is explained in the manual of your CPU/Motherboard. Sometimes unwanted results can happen from changes to the BIOS.

Can be a number of things but the cause most related to this problem has to do with hardware.
A noisy power supply, loose screw under the motherboard, bad CPU fan, and memory, expansion boards, socketed chips, and cables that are not fully seated are among the common causes. The motherboard could be cracked—these are usually hard to find.

My guess is that you have aquired a virus that has messed around with your boot sector.
Try putting your windows CD in and reboot the machine. This will cause the machine to boot from your CDROM bypassing your possibly bad bootsector. You may need to enter your bios to boot from CDROM if it is not set to that already. If this works, then your bootsector is busted and you should follow the prompts to repair windows.
