about 2 years ago i hit my head and was in the hospital with a concusion. since that time my memory is TERRIBLE: my husband will tell me something... like he is going to the neighbors for a little bit (for example). and after a little while i am angry because i can't find him and have no idea where he is. when i find him, (at the neighbors for example) he says he told me, and he will repeat part of the conversation and i have a flashback that he DID tell me... this happens all of the time, work, kids, husband, telephone calls... and just recently i was driving and all of the sudden it was if i had awaken and didn't know where i was or where i was going (guessing i blacked out for maybe a minute or more... not certain). i have been under a lot of stress for years... so at first i was blaming my memory on stress, but my husband pointed out today how bad my memory has been since my skating accident. has anyone had something similar, symptom wise? diagnosis?

You should get a CT scan done, I know they are expensive, but damn, this is your brain we're talking about. There may be surgical options for you, maybe not... it could just be a subdural hematoma that never healed properly, or it could be a result of permanent damage, but you won't know without the scan. See your doctor.

have you brought this up to your doctor?
It could be a side effect from the head injury, short-term memory especially seems to be effected by head trauma. The part about blacking out while driving worries me a lot - as it is a safety issue for you. I would talk to your doctor to rule out any other cause and if it is indeed just a problem with short-term memory or recall, look into some of the 'exercises' that are recommended for improving memory. If you continue to have episodes that put you at risk - look into a safety alert bracelet or something similar as well.

It sounds like some kind of short term memory. Stress is one of the leading factors. Check with your family doctor and get an appointment with a specialist. Your situation sounds serious....do not self diagnose.....GO TO DOCTOR !

A visit to the doctor is in order, he will order some tests, like a CT scan and maybe an MRI. Check out this site:

I have not, myself, but I have heard of things like this. You should probably go see a neurologist. He/she will be able to tell you if your memory problems are fixable or not, and if they are fixable, he/she can help you with that. Until then, or if they're not able to be fixed, you should try writing EVERYTHING down. If your husband leaves, have him write down where he is going so that you can know. Or you could try writing it, and then maybe this would help you remember better.

You must see a doctor, preferably a neurologist. Your driving episode sounds exactly like a small seizure. There are medications that might help. Go see the doctor right away.

The section of the brain that deals with short term memory loss may be dinked. Perhaps a CAT scan..?

I would go in and see a neurologist. They might want to run a CT head, or MRI brain to see if you caused damage to the brain, and where the damage occured. They have so many advances in treatment, that perhaps they could help you.

I don't have a personal experience, but it sounds like you really should be going to the nurologist for a detailed exam. You already know what started it and that something is wrong.
