The a/c blows air out the vents, but its not cold. What could be casing thios? If I have to take it to be fixed will it cost a lot? Also, if it costs a lot to repair, will it be because its a Honda or does it just cost a lot to repair the a/c? I took it to the repair shop, but the guy said he would have to use a dye to see if there was a laek, but that the test alone would cost $120! so I took my car out of there. Is that a normal price? I know, I know, too may questions, but I want to sell this car soon.

Try buying an a/c refill kit, read the directions, and try it out before you take it to a shop. Most auto stores (and Wal-Mart) offer the kits. It'll cost about $20. If it works, it'll save you from paying for the test or taking it to a shop.

If its blowing but not blowing cool it may just needs to be recharged and add a little refridgerant. If you do this and the next day its doing the same thing then there may be a leak somewhere. But spend the change on a refridgerant and do the test yourself and then bring it to the repair shop and SAY i have a leak in my a/c how much would it cost on the '96 honda civic. Don't listen at that ya-ya bout oh its gonna cost such and such money because the mechanic has to be sure thats the problem 1st. Tell them you seen another mechanic and thats the diagnosis. So now they know you're not paying for any misc. test that they may feel the need to run.

The guy u took it to was actually helping u out. By just charging it and adding dye u can run ur a/c as long as it can and when it quits u can take it back to that guy and hell be able to spot ur problem in minutes. The other route would be more effective but more costly. Most likely u just have an o-ring leaking. That's common on Honda's, right at the condenser. U can even find ur own leak by puttin ur car under a shade and break out a black light and look around under the hood after he has put the dye in. 120 is a fair price I guess depending on where u live. Its a little higher then what i charge but its close and I'm very fair to my customers. If it where me if that's the only prob u got id keep it Honda's are great little cars.

Honda parts genereally are expensive, in your case you may need any number of things from simply recharging the system (with the gas that they use for car a/c I forget the name) or that there is a leak, put bluntly though it will cost you quite a bit and doing it yourself is not recommended because of the high pressure that the a/c system is under.

Presume the guy checked the belt , assume if he did the refrigerant has leaked out and im afraid that probably is going to cost you.
