too afraid to be near your eyes. It just takes practice. Force open your eyes.

It takes time and practice, the first few times when I tried, I ended up going out without it cos I look like a panda or something. LOL. But after a while or so, I got the hang of it. So now I do it in like 3 minutes. Just keep practicing. Try Maybelline's soft effect eyeliner, you can control it better, and start using a pencil definitely, cos you need more control when you use a liquid eye liner. play around with it. if you can't make a straight line, smudge it a little, so it looks like you have smoky eyes and would look cool.
Have fun and KEEP PRACTICING! :)

Different Eyeliner Applications

Close-Set Eyes:
Line outer third of upper lids with gray, brown, or black liner. Smudge gently. Use a lighter liner on the inner eye to widen the space between eyes.

Small Eyes:
Draw a dark line gradually thickening at outer edge of the eye. Use a light-colored pencil (gold, silver, white) and draw under lower lash.

Deep-Set Eyes:
Line upper lash line with pale, shimmery liner. Then line outer edge of lower lash with a soft, neutral shade (gray or taupe). This will create the illusion of a less heavy lid.

Drooping Eyes:
Line outer third of eye very close to lashes, carefully sweeping the liner up at the corner of the eye.

im a pro at eyeliner! i wear like 5 pounds of it and i dont walk out of the house with out it. but hey, my friend has that problem. she has a shakey hand and sensitive eyes. that is probobly your problem too. so my advice to you is take a deep breath. hold your hand steady. and put it on. and if that doesnt work. have someone do it for you till you get the hang of it.
ya.. good luck with that! :DD

all of these answers are good advice but i would add one thing. rub the liner on the back of you hand not hard but just a little to get the pencial warmed up so it will go along your lid a little smoother.

Practice alot. A liquid one is better for beginners, I think. Easier to handle.
