I wonder since it probably cleans the print heads whenever it is turned on, and last time I checked cleaning the print heads requires ink, that maybe all this off and on is wasting ink.

Switching off your printer and switching it on will not lead to any wastage of ink. It just aligns its position for precise printing and its nothing but a self test. You can switch it on and off any number of times. Ink will not be wasted.

But if you are a frequent user, then leave your printer on always.

No, if I leave mine on it dries up and I have to clean the print heads. That wastes ink. I am very careful to turn it off immediately after printing.

Do you mean turning it off? If so, no it doesn't waste ink because nothing is being printed. I leave my printer on all the time.

but if you don't turn it on, absolutely no waste of ink. no printing either.
