If it gets really desperate you can always go into safe mode and see if the icons show up there. To get there, tap the F8 key when your computer boots up, then choose safe mode.
If your icons and desktop do show up in safe mode but not on your normal login, then type "msconfig" in the Run option on your Start menu. From here you can use the "Launch System Restore" option and set your computer back to the time before the problem was occurring and see if that fixes your problem. Of course anything you installed after that date (except your documents) will have to be reinstalled but it's better than starting from scratch again.
Try it and see if it works before you go wiping out your system.

Have you tried restoring your computer to a past date? Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Then choose a date prior to the time you transferred everything to D drive and it should take care of it. Don't put in your recovery discs until you back up all your files in drive D because you'll lose tons of information. Next time try defragmenting your drive to save up space, or burn information onto discs so you have space to work with, or buy a new hard drive to add to the present one.

try to re install the operating system on the c drive and them check the d drive for your files. The Bios(how your computer starts up) checks the c drive to start the operating system, but you moved it along with everything else to the d drive and the bios was not set to boot form the d drive so you can't see your files. Or it might be something else.

all of these people have no common sense.
you obviously can't move windows back to C because you can't get to "my computer".
You're hard drive is "confused", in a a sense.
You may have to take it out, but it in a external enclosure via USB, then plug it into another computer and move windows back to C.
That's about $30, but if you have the restore CDs for your computer, you can use those to set every thing back to factory settings. If you don't have them, go to your manuf.'s web site, and you can order them for like $5. Or reinstall windows, if you have an xp Cd.

hahah... try to recover windows (stick your windows os cd in the drive then run safe restore)
this should reinstall windows or replace any missing files from the directories (which you moved altogether)
if that doesnt work, try booting from your d: drive, then transferring the windows stuff back into c drive while still keeping everything else in that drive.

If windows was on the c drive then you affectively moved windows to a location that windows doesn't reconize itself to be in. Try moving it back, if not save your other files and reinstall windows.

I'm afraid my freind you have caused yourself some greif. You are going to have to do a destructive restore to gain access to your desktop. Check with your computers operating manual on how to do this. I know with mine, all I have to do is to press F10 on boot up and it starts right away.
