I live on a street that's about 150 meters long, and comes to a dead end. There's tons of kids on this street, and they are ALWAYS outside. The younger ones (3-12 years old) roam the streets without parental supervision, even the 3 & 4 year olds. They stand in the middle of the street even if cars are coming and don't move, you actually have to drive around them or sound the horn (and the neighbours give you a dirty look if you honk). The older ones, 16-20 smoke up and drink all the time, and they smash beer bottles on the street infront of their own house. People in the neighbourhood complained that I drive too fast down this stretch, so the city had 2 speed bumps layed down today. How stupid and a waste of money that is. What do you think? Or am I the obnoxious one because I happen to come down the street once a day and expect to be able to get home without having to hit a kid?

It feels like the ghetto. The wierd thing is, it's one small street, and when school is back in, then it's alot quieter. I just wish some of these parents teach their kids how not to play on the road. I'm all for sports and fun activities, just get your kid that can barely walk off the road!

In response to one of the answer, I RARELY drive "fast". The posted speed limit (which is on the wrong side of the road when you enter the neighbourhood) is 15 Km/Hr. Given that I have to travel a distance of 150 meters, that's 35 seconds of driving really slow, IF there's no kids in your way. Now the road is in bad shape, so I never driver faster than 20-25 Km/Hr. I might have hit 30 once because I was accelerating out of there. However, I wouldn't call that a dangerous speed.

There's a fantastic new game being played by decent, law abiding citizens of Glasgow. They have taken to riding around the city anfd firing paint balls at yobs and children causing trouble!! Only one rule and that is no aiming for the head. At the end of the day they tally up scores and the winner has an all expences paid piss up on the town!! Give it a go- reclaim the streets!! (cos god knows the police won't)

i think you should have chosen a differnet neighborhood to live in. It sounds like all the parties are wrong... including you. Compromise would be a good thing here. And next tiem you move (if you do) pick a nighborhood that is not so family friendly. You will be happeir and kids playing won't annoy you so much.
For now... maybe you could come up with a compromise of say... you don't honk.. if they move out of the street when you come. Ask the parents nicely and don't be so negative about their kids. The more negative you are the mor defensive they will be. Remember the old saying.. you will catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Good luck

Sounds like you give in a bad neighborhood, or they've made it bad for you. Kids roaming the streets all day and night, drinking and smoking. I guess they installed speed bumps for the simple fact that a kid doesn't get plastered all over the place. I was coming home last week and this kid was walking out in the middle of the street. He would not move and kept staring at me. I just kept on driving and he walked closer to my truck and when I slowed down he srated mouthing crap to me. I slammed on the brakes and he ran away. Chicken sh*t. I dont' know why I added that, but I just did.

We live in such a screwed up, twisted world, that sometimes sane people (which it appears you are) look like the ones in the wrong. It sounds like you live in a pretty grim neighbourhood. Would you consider knocking door-to-door and asking your neighbours to take better care of their kids? It's hard to believe that the city had two speed bumps laid down in your honour. But were you driving to fast?

Sounds like community just south of where I live!! Fireworks nearly year round, and even the local deputy that lives in the same neighborhood, just goes to work and comes home ignoring the situation. To delive pizza in this community is to take your life in your hands or blow your horn the whole way thru ignoring the dirty looks and hand gestures!! No you are not crazy, but you sure live in one of the crazy parts of the world as do many others who feel the same way!!

that was a waste of money. and it doesn't surprise me that kids are roaming the streets at all ages. Parents are all working and the older ones are probably supposed to be watching them.

It sounds like your neighborhood(just like mine) needs some more sports and activity programs for the kids. Maybe you can get with some more neighbors and go to your alderman. Good luck-

Well, I think it's normal. YOu should get used to the kids, they outnumber you so it looks like you have no choice. They eventually all grow up. Believe me, it's better than a block full of old nasty nosy neighbors.

Begin blowing the horn as soon as you turn on your street... all the way to your driveway. They might think that you're the buttwipe, but you know better. They're the buttwipes..
