I'm pretty sure the one I saw at the zoo was just eating lettuce!

I've been raising turtles for a few years now. depending on the size of the turtle you can feed it small fish, tadpoles, polliwogs, crickets, meal worms, any soft bodied bug really. they sometimes will also eat little bits of lettuce and fruit. commercial turtle food from a pet store is really best because it has all the nutrients a turtle needs for a healthy diet.

Hey,
You can feed your turtle on fresh lettuice, raw mince meat, grated carrots and a little bit of apple. They get everything they need from that.

Mine gobble up the minnows like candy. I buy minnows at 10cents each at a local pet store. Greens are good also (no lettuce) mustard greens, collard greens, strawberries & other fruits sometimes.

If you go with minnows (good protein source!) I stick mine in their water bowl with my turtle. They usually are finished eating with in a few min. Good luck!

They love tomatoes, but you have to put him in warm water about 3 hours after eating so that he will go to the bathroom... otherwise, they'll just hold it. Then get some other veggies to see if he/she will eat any of them.

Most sliders will eat raw shrimp, and earthworms or .pieces of fish. Remember, sliders have to be in water to swallow. iceberg lettuce has no food value, they will starve on a diet of that, and they may not eat it anyway......
