Womens clothes are much more expensive. Guys underwear? a couple bucks for a 6-pack. womens? 5-10 dollars for a thong.

Think of the difference in material too. Girls tanktops are about the same price as a guys, with half the total material.

Mens suits are expensive because they buy maybe a handful over their lives. The company needs to make maximum profit off of each sale. Women, on the other hand, buy many separates etc. to introduce more variety, because for some reason society demands women have more variety in their clothing than men, or at least have more freedom in what is acceptable dress. the companies know this and can charge less for some things.

Other things are ridiculous, like shoes. tiny strappy things cost so much money... whereas a guy spending that amount could get a few pairs of very decent shoes. Companies know women are (for some reason) crazy about having a bazillion pairs of shoes, purses, bags, jewelry, etc... and know that they can charge whatever they want for them.

Don't get me wrong though. Lots of items are pretty much on the level, like most jeans, t-shirts, etc... it seems to be the things women want/buy most that are a LOT more (read: ridiculously) expensive.

Sometimes. A women's bathing suit at Target may cost about $24+, and a man's about $15+. High end men's clothing often costs more than high end women's, but if you go to a place like Walmart, men's shorts are much less expensive than women's, even though they usually require more fabric.

Certain items are notoriously needlessly expensive (shoes).
Most items cannot take anywhere near the wear and tear
that the equivalent male clothing can take - so they need
to be replaced more often anyways.

in a nutshell...

firstly, women are willing to pay whatever obscene amount of $$ for the latest shoe, bag, skirt, whatever...but not men. the female psyche where shopping is concerned is very different compared to the male one.

secondly, the costs for women's clothes cost more to produce, ie the models, the ad campaigns, store design, packaging, are considerably higher compared with men's clothing.

Women are more involved in fashion. Fashion costs money.
Most guys are happy in a tee and jeans and are not willing to pay $135 for the jeans.
A woman will find a pair of jeans that she adores and will buy two pair for $135 each, then a matching belt, top, shoes, underwear and other "esentials".
I guess its just the price to look good to beat out the other woman to the guy they both had their eye on.
