I'm leaning towards the MB, but I don't know, I'm just at battle w/myself and can't think of what I want...a new OS, or XP..
and does anyone know if M1210 can handle Vista Ultimate (sans NVidia Graphics)?

I am answering you from a Macbook Pro with the core duo processor (2 Ghz). It is very very fast. I also have a two year old iMac 20", which is much slower than my Macbook. I prefer the Macbook Pro (16.7") for every day use. The screen size and quality are excellent and very nice for extended use. The key board is great. And it is very fast, did I mention that already?

Also I have installed Windows for certain technical software I need. Duel booting works perfectly. It is like getting two laptops for the price of one.

I have owned about 10 Apples and have never had a hardware issue with any of them. OS X is rock solid and very trouble free. I typically leave it running all the time. I shutdown hard only when I take the computer out of the house, otherwise it just sleeps. You can expect about 4 hours of use on batteries.

The Macbook is not cheap but it is blazingly fast and very elegant.

You can use both Mac and XP on the macbook.
The graphics card on the MacBook is not especially good and I would recommend to wait until Vista comes out to see how well it runs on the mac. The mac os is a very good OS and you will definitely like it.

properly, its no longer quite a range between a Dell or a Mac, quite its between living house windows or Mac Os X (an awesome OS, by technique of how).. sure, i understand you could run xp on a mac besides, yet why purchase a Mac once you're purely gonna run XP? it's going to be purely the different pc obtainable(liable to virus, secret agent ware, and god is conscious what else...) i'm a modern switcher.. like 2 months in the past... and that i love it...

My iBook is so stable it can run for months between reboots (I've done it). Mac OS X is a dream. They got the interface, file system, and much of the networking right. My next laptop will be the latest Intel-based MacBook.

At work, part of the day, I use a desktop computer with XP Professional. You've heard it all before--it's cumbersome, unnecessarily complicated, and constantly "in your face" with alerts, relatively poor interface design, and the classic Microsoft trait--everything you want is buried at least one level deeper than it should be. Amazing that this is the "world standard."

If you want to run XP, purchase BootCamp from Apple, or the promising new "simultaneous" boot available from Parallels called "Parallels Desktop for Mac"--visit their website at http://www.parallels.com Be sure to install Norton so that you don't trash the whole machine--see http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/index.jsp

I'm not sure about Windows Vista, but Mac is definitely the better choice.

Ultimately, it's your decision, but Macs run both OS X and Windows, and Apple should be releasing an update to Boot Camp for Vista.
