Easiest way to remember is a traditional american Running track is 440 yards or 400 meters. 1600 meters is equal to 1 mile and 1760 yards, there are three feet in 1 yard, so you multiply 1760 by 3 and you come up with...5280 which is all equal to 1 mile. 440 yards is 25% of a mile. But use the track guide as a thing to remember, you can never lose!

OK, there's 5280 feet in a mile. That means there's (5280/3 =) 1760 yards in a mile.

To figure out what percent of a mile that is, you divide 440 yards by 1760 yards, then multiply by 100. Or, if it's easier for you, you can multiply by 100 first, then divide. I'm going to multiply first because I'm doing this in my head, and I have a hard time dividing a number by a bigger number.

440 x 100 is 44000. 44000 divided by 1760 is 25, so 440 is 25% of 1760.

I hope that helps.

Exactly 25%. First you turn 440 yards into 1,320 feet. Then you do 1,320 divided by 5,280 and get .25, which equals 25%.
