After watching the world cup i think soccer players are the weakest atheltes in team sports. Either thier really weak or they are just *******. In the NHL the fans wouldnt accept that kinda crap. If Ray Lewis tackled wayne rooney, wayne rooney would most likely die from the hit.

Tell me what will happen if an Australian who plays rugby, tackles Ray Lewis or any other of our football players, with all our protection.

Forget the Ray Lewis comparison that's apples vs. oranges. He has to be that big and Shrek doesn't have to be to play their sports.

Soccer players aren't weak; the way the rules are enforced allows divers and metrosexuals to play like littel girls. Go watch a top match on DVD from the 1970s or '80s and there's a HUGE difference! That was an exciting era unlike today's farce.

P.S. I absolutely hate Ray Lewis (great player) but a thug. Takeo Spikes is class and a reall all-pro.

Let's say. In NFL the guys probably just play 30 minutes a game. Out of the 4 hours they are only playing 30 minutes, moreover, you can come in and then com out.

Soccer players might be weak (they don't need to be so strong) but they are 20 times better athletes than football players!

Calling 'em weak isn't the best choice of words. They are still athletes, however since they take less direct hits, and there is far less physical contact in soccer than american football, they don't need to bulk up as much as football players need to. Although I can't say I'm impressed with them falling like they got picked off by a sniper each time the got tackled trying to draw penalties like they demonstrated in this year's world cup.

Soccer requires the most amount of energy in any world sport because many players are required to be in constant movement for 2 45-minute halfs and onyl 3 subs are required. Not like in football where theres actually two teams playing(offense and defense) and most of the time they just throw the ball or run 10 yards. You should also realize that soccer players are not required to train their tackling ability like football players. Thats like saying that someones dad would be able to KO a boxer. it doesnt work that way

I think the soccer players, because they could last way longer. American footballers are used to intense action for short periods of time, but soccer players never stop going, much like in basketball. Depends on the position, too, but if you taught them all basic mechanics and how to shoot, and played a team vs. a team, 5 on 5, with them picking their best (I.E.: No fat linemen, starters would probably be RBs and WRs), the soccer players would probably win. Goalies for Center! :p

soccer players are a joke. Constantly diving, I don't know how anyone can take those idiots seriously.
Good role models to kids : /

my daughter plays goalie. I'd love to see her slide tackle you and bust your knees, buddy-boy.
football players wear protective gear. they wouldn't last long tackling like that without it.
My daughter's been kicked in the head, stomped on, run over, hit in the face with a soccer ball, but like a Timex watch, she takes a lickin, but keeps on tickin.

p.s. and for Metzger & others below, what then, do you call the basketball players flopping all over the floors like fishes out of water whenever someone bumps into them? Oh, they're trying to draw a foul.......isn't that just what you said about the soccer players.
And, for JH below, my daughter thrives on contact. She wants to play La Crosse next year, boys, not girls.

p.p.s. I don't see the asker posting what sports, if any, he plays. I like how people who don't play any sports, are the quickest to bash ones they don't like.

i agree with you. its because soccer players scramble after the ball back and forth.... back and forth.... over and over again. So realy soccer players have to be thin and quick with little muscle.

Let 'em play with Materazzi and no protective gear.
