Both black and white guys do this. Personally, I think it looks like crap

Gotta say, I've had 13 good answers. However, there was one that made me stop and think, so actually "MY" answer would be the one closest. Here goes: during the 'hippie' era, we wore beads & long hair, bell bottoms ( I hate those things now ), and when I was out 'scouting' for some reefer, I would be more likely to ask a 'hippie type'. I believe these guys wear thier pants like to as a 'flag'...probably to remind someone they can 'score' from them 'cause their cool, or someone else will invite them to share thier meth, crack, etc., and they won't have to buy it themselves. Also, I would agree in part with the guy who said "ask a con" regarding easy man sex...LOLOL that's gotta be true with some of those idiots that wear their pants that way. They would be so EASY to drop!!! LOL I enjoy this!!!

I'm told by prison inmates, not allowed belts for obvious reasons. Those who wear their pants very low are "punks" as a sign to other inmates they are available for sex with other men.

I hear ya.. I wonder what happened to the days when people bought clothes that actually fit. It's not attractive for people to actively seek out the "plumbers crack" style. All I want to do is tell those idiots to pull their pants the heck UP.. and buy clothes that fit. I think obviously the hip hop/rap era has influenced fashion but who the hell thinks it actually looks good? My boyfriend's kid likes that style. DRIVES me nuts. But hell.. in our generation we expressed ourselves with LONG hair.. hippie beads, tye die.. etc etc. It was hard to tell a guy from a girl most of the time in my generation. The good news is that most of us grew out of the need to express ourselves by using our appearance. The last think we wanted to look like in our era was "uncool". Hopefully it will be a quickly passing fad even though it's not passing quickly enough for me.

Prison. In prison, you aren't allowed to wear belts and sometimes you wouldn't get your size pants (the policemen in jail didn't care as long as you wore the prison attire) So your pants would be continuously falling off as you walked. Some people got so used to it that once they got out of jail, they just kept on doing it...funny cuz they use belts outside of jail and they still let 'em fall. So it became a trend in the area that the guys were doing it in and spread all over.

It looks stupid. It seems to have spawned from the gangster style that has taken hold and not gone away. What does that say about people and our country when the youth want to look like idiot gangstas with their pants hanging down their butts. It doesn't look cool, it looks low class.

comprehend what i imagine when I see a guy actually retaining onto his pants to maintain them at that factor below the butt? i imagine "attempt operating from the police officials in THAT outfit!" Hahahahaaaa! there is no way i'd even opt to loaf round with someone dressed like that. outfits kinds say some thing about someone, even if we adore it or no longer. dishevelled butt pants say "Wannabe Gangter" to me. for the reason that I consciously go with a existence-kind of respectability, i go with to no longer carry close out with wannabe gangsters.

An effort to keep both hands busy in holding the pants, so they don't fall under to do any mischief.

OMG I completely agree! I don't want to see your nasty underwear when your sweats fall down around your ankles and then you trip because your hands are full and can't pull them up! Wear tighter pants - we women like to look at guys' booties, too! Let's hear it for tight blue jeans! woohoo

Supposedly it began in prison when the inmates had to give up their belts to prevent them from using it as a suicide tool. I don't care for the look myself, but what intrigues me more is....how funny they walk!!

Not sure, but my guess would be this thug-life crap that seems to be prevalent everywhere I go. So maybe it was a sign used by gangs or soemthing.

I read once that it's supposed to reflect the fact that prison inmates aren't allowed to wear belts.

I think it looks pretty stupid, too.
