Can your current goverment boss also have someone in their familly working in a competeing 8A contract company? Our contract is up for the fiscal budget year and it looks like our client will go with the company that their family member works in.

I believe that would be illegal, but it seems that rule is frequently ignored, if you are politically well connected.

There is no conflict of interest if the decision is not made by the "boss". Our Mayor could have a family member that is the owner of a large construction company. That construction company may bid on our public works projects. BUT, when the bid is brought to the Council to affirm, the family member must be the lowest qualified bidder and the Mayor may not vote on the question to choose the company. She must abstain. There may be collusion, but it would be pretty tough to prove.

Cheney doesn't care. Halliburton fired all legal citizens on government contracts on to hire illegals by Bush signing off on an act that guarantees legal wages or something. Davis Beacon act or something?

Yes it is if the family member has an ownership stake in the company, either full or partial.

I mean he can't help it where his family works. But if wants to change companies, nothing can be done . .
