Following BEDMAS which is Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication Addition and Substraction, you would first do the exponent (since you can't minus 2-x since it is not like terms)
By using (x+y)^2 = X^2+2xy+y^2 (^ means power/exponent) you would get
X^2-4x+4-1=0
Then you can group like terms
X^2-4x-3=0
Then you have to find a number that when multiplied the product is 3 and when added together the sum is -4
Those numbers would be -3 and -1
-3 + -1 = -4
-3 * -1 = 3
So then you would have (x-3)(x-1)=0
Either x-3 is equal to 0 so x= 3
OR x-1 is equal to 0 so x=1
Hope this helps

Normally I'd be inclined to say "do your own homework, kiddo", but if (2-x)^2-1=0 then (2-x)^2 = 1
I believe the only thing that can be multiplied by itself and come out as one is one itself, so (2-x) * (2-x) = 1
which means 2-x=1
so x=1.
I think.
but I haven't studied math in over 10 years so take it or leave it.

(2 - x)^2 - 1 = 0
(2 - x)^2 = 1
2 - x = -1 or +1
-x = -3 or -1
x = 3 or 1

(2-x)^2 -1 = 0
4 - 4x +x^2 -1 = 0
x^2 - 4x + 3 = 0
x^2 - x - 3x + 3 = 0
x(x - 1) - 3(x - 1) = 0
(x-3)(x-1) = 0
Hence, x = 3 or x = 1.
It's quite easy. Hope it helps !

(2-x)^2 =1
therefore
(2-x) = +1 or -1

therefore
x = 1 or 3

The problem has two correct answers: +1 and -1.

These two answers (roots to the equation) are the only correct answers.

This is easy enough to do it in your head.
